Doug

O’Brien

Investment Strategist

Doug joined the LWO team in 2023 as an Investment Strategist. He is responsible for managing the investment team’s rapid growth and helping the firm expand its clientele even further. He specializes in employing efficiencies in the trading process that enable the firm to manage an increasing amount of client assets while minimizing the need for additional team members.

Doug spends approximately two-thirds of his time on trading and the remaining time assisting the team with investment meetings and research.

Previously, Doug was with Brinker Capital Investments, LLC, which recently became Orion following a merger. During his 10 years in trading at Brinker, Doug established a strong reputation for bringing many efficiencies to the trading group, which operated in a high-volume, high-complexity environment. He and his team used close to 200 models to manage approximately $15 billion in assets. He spent his first 10 years at Brinker working in performance reporting and other areas.

Doug was born in New York City and moved with his family to the suburbs of Philadelphia when he was in the second grade. He lived there for most of his life and now resides only about half an hour from the area where he grew up. He works remotely for LWO.

Doug attended Mary Washington College, which is now the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia. One summer, he returned to Pennsylvania to work for Brinker as an intern. A few weeks into the internship, he was offered a full-time job and accepted the offer.

Recently, Doug passed the Securities Industry Essentials® (SIE®) exam, which FINRA established in 2019 for registered representatives, and he is in the process of taking his Series 7.

Doug and his wife have three children under the age of 10 — Aiden, Landon and Riley. The couple met through his best friend, whom he worked with at restaurants when he came home from college during the summers. One summer when Doug returned, his friend introduced them, and they hit it off.

Coaching his kids’ soccer and baseball teams keeps Doug busy. He enjoys playing soccer as well, and he even played in tournaments in England and the Netherlands in his youth.

Doug likes watching professional sports, especially the Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Giants. He also enjoys science fiction and fantasy stories and loves passing those books and movies on to his kids. He loves spending time with his family and friends and continuously pursues learning new things.
