Garry co-founded Whitfield Bacon Wealth Partners, an affiliate of Crux Wealth Advisors, in 2022 as a Senior Wealth Management Advisor, RJFS at our Austin, TX office. With nearly three decades of extensive comprehensive strategic wealth and asset management experience, he brings critical knowledge to our team in various areas from investments, tax, and wealth advisory disciplines serving high net-worth individuals and families from multiple industries, including entertainment, manufacturing, and technology.
Garry began his career in 1993 with KPMG Peat Marwick in San Jose, CA, where he gained a solid foundation of high net-worth individuals and closely-held business income tax, estate tax, and wealth transfer planning experience. He completed the CPA exam in 1994 and left the firm in 1998 to form the Business Management and High Net-worth Consulting firm Temp CFO Solutions (a division of Whitfield and Johnson), where he managed both enterprise and shareholder risk for artists and entertainers. During that time, Garry served as CFO and CRO (Chief Risk Officer) in the entertainment industry for six years. He played a pivotal role in developing and implementing business and branding strategies and constructing corporate governance to manage assets and intellectual property at the corporate level and the policy for preserving and managing wealth at the shareholder level.
In August 2002, Garry completed the graduate tax program at California’s San Jose State University and earned a Master of Taxation in 2003. Garry has also been granted the financial planning (PFS) and small business valuation (CVA) credentials. He formally joined Neuberger Berman’s Wealth Management group in 2006, located in San Francisco, CA, as a Vice President of Wealth Management. He migrated his practice to JP Morgan’s Private Wealth Management group in 2009 for three years before joining Morgan Stanley Wealth Management as a Senior Vice President in 2012 to form the Whitfield Group at Morgan Stanley.
Garry double majored in Accounting and Economics at Lee University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1992. He was also a four-year scholarship student-athlete and twice a National Christian College All America selection in varsity soccer throughout college.
I am married to my sixth-grade sweetheart, Kim, and consider myself incredibly fortunate to have built a great life together. We have four children, Jessie, Dillon, Camryn, and Dean. While some of our kids are now grown and out of the house, we continue to have busy schedules packed with activities, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. The time spent with my family is the time I cherish the most.
